The literature that arises as an outburst against casteism is Dalit literature. Although, the constitution of India has abolished the caste system, it still lingers in many walks of life with its grasps as firm as ever on the minds of its people. Dalit Literature is uniquely Indian as it is a byproduct of an evil caste system that existed for centuries in our country. It started with the Marathi language and soon appeared in other Indian languages through narratives such as poems, short stories and most importantly autobiographies. This literature emerged into the forefront after 1960. It forms an important and distinct part of Indian literature. Undeniably his writing is not a stuff of potboiler but proves to be a better medium to create consciousness in the society.ĭalit Literature is the literature about the Dalits, an oppressed Indian class under the Indian caste system. Today his voice has been well recognized, and it stands as a robust right for his society He describes "his" experience as a Dalit, and the twinge that he underwent throughout his lifetime. He took Dalit literature in his hand as a gizmo to carry out his anguish as a communal trauma of his community. "Joothan: A Dalit's Life" is respectively chosen for the research as it brings out the malicious veracity of Dalit's life in an authentic way.
